US Military Struck a 'Large Complex' in Venezuela, Trump Claimed Without Providing Specifics.

Former President Donald Trump has asserted that US military assets struck a "large facility" in the South American country recently. However, the former president withheld information about the exact purpose or location of the strike, and officials have issued no further comment from his team.

Vague Comments Offered In a Radio Interview

"US forces just eliminated – I'm not sure if you read – they have a big plant, where the vessels come from. Two nights ago, we took it out. So we struck them decisively," Trump allegedly told Republican donor and supermarket owner John Catsimatidis on Friday.

Possible Implications of a Verified Attack

Should a US military action were to be verified, it would mark the initial land strike since the US Department of Defense initiated a expansion of US strike forces in the region to interdict drug traffickers that the Trump administration claims operate under the orders of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

The initial objective of the military buildup has evolved into a blockade aimed at stopping the country's oil exports.

Online Video and Official Statements

Trump has for weeks warned that US forces are prepared to escalate the operations by hitting objectives inside Venezuela, a move that would theoretically require congressional approval.

Video footage circulated on social media on 24 December purportedly showed an detonation reportedly from an industrial area in Zulia state. But, the video or the facility has not been confirmed by third parties.

An source allegedly told a media outlet that the president was describing a drug facility in his remarks.

Response and Current Military Situation

The Caracas administration has issued no statement on the event Trump referenced. Furthermore, there have been no corroborating news from within the country about it.

The deployment of American forces in the area – a posture certain officials have called a maritime "quarantine" – represents the most expansive naval operation of the Trump era.

Administration officials have stopped short from calling the operation as a full blockade, but have acknowledged that approximately 15,000 troops are deployed across the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, including a carrier strike group, advanced fighter jets, and Coast Guard cutters to implement current economic sanctions.
