Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear out of place, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his debts and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the party reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Planners groups.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
